Reservoirs of plant virus disease: Occurrence of wheat dwarf virus and barley/cereal yellow dwarf viruses in Sweden

Non-crop plants such as grasses and volunteer are an inseparable part of the flora crop fields can influence virus incidence in plants. This study revealed that wheat dwarf (WDV), barley yellow (BYDVs), cereal virus-RPV (CYDV-RPV) be among ryegrass growing or around winter fields. Phylogenetic analysis showed WDV isolate from was typical WDV-E infects wheat. Similarly, virus-PAV (BYDV-PAV) grouped clade together with other BYDV-PAV isolates. Inoculation experiments under greenhouse conditions confirmed annual various genotypes infected very low titre. Moreover, leafhoppers were able acquire plants, despite titre, transmit wheat, resulting symptoms. Information grass reservoir may contribute improving strategies controlling plant outbreaks field. Knowledge likely levels used inform decisions on insect vector control help prevent disease future.
